With the Surrogates Blu-ray & DVD about to be released, we sit down to chat with actress Radha Mitchell. How does the action star handle stunts in high heels? What’s it like to be a sex symbol? Read on for Radha’s insights into bruises, bungee jumps, Bruce Willis and lots more…
Q: What can you tell us about your new Blu-ray & DVD, Surrogates?
Radha Mitchell: The movie is a sci-fi, action thriller and I play an FBI agent called Peters. The device of the story is that there is a surrogate technology being used in the world and the population is addicted to using it. You plug into a device, which is basically a robot, and that robot goes and performs all of your daily tasks for you. When that happens, you can manicure your life. You can organize and control how you want to live and how you want to feel. However, something goes wrong in this society and my character works alongside Bruce Willis’ character to figure out who committed a murder.
Q: Tell us more about the surrogates…
Radha Mitchell: When the story begins, the technology of surrogates has been around for years. It has been promoted because it’s considered extremely safe. You can have any kind of experience and not feel a thing. For example, you can jump out of a plane, but you’ll never be in physical danger because it’s all done vicariously. However, something terrible has happened to shake up this world – and it’s up to my character and Bruce Willis’ character to find out how and why this murder has occurred.
Q: What would you use a surrogate to do for you? Perhaps you’d like to jump out of a plane?
Radha Mitchell: I think you’d lose part of the experience if you used a surrogate for something like jumping out of a plane. Part of the experience is about risking your own mortality. I’d love to use a surrogate to do all of the boring things in life that I’ve done thousands of times before, like cleaning or household chores. However, I think I’d want to do all of the exciting stuff for myself.
Q: Are you a daredevil at heart?
Radha Mitchell: I haven’t jumped out of a plane, but I did consider it in the past. A friend of mine jumped out of a plane when I was in high school and I remember him coming back with the video, so I thought about doing it back then. Since then, I feel like there’s enough uncertainty in my life as it is without needing to add to the drama. But who knows? Maybe if the opportunity came along, I’d consider it again.
Q: Would you ever consider a bungee jump?
Radha Mitchell: Bungee jumping? No. My most daredevil experience has involved motorbike riding. I survived a motorbike accident because I fell off one, but I’m not too much of a thrill seeker in that sense.

More interviews by the cast and crew of Bedtime Stories. This time, the female lead, Keri Russell discusses the movie and her experience working on it! Make sure to pick up your copy of Bedtime Stories on DVD and Blu-ray 4/07/09!
QUESTION: You appear in five mini movies within Bedtime Stories. Which were the best and worst to do?
KERI RUSSELL: Oh boy! My favorite always involves anything in which Adam Sandler was wearing a long, flowing blond wig! That was highly enjoyable for me. I think the mermaid was the most fun. I felt like every day was an Adam Shankman talent show…today you are going to do and Adam Sandler is going to do that. Like I was in a mermaid costume and Adam had a long wig on and then elephants come out! It was hardly work though. There was not a lot of preparation it was just fun. You just rolled with it.
QUESTION: How was it being in all the oddball costumes?
KERI RUSSELL: It was hilarious. It just got crazier and crazier…from space to strange goblin outfits, to the mermaid. We were laughing the whole time because it was so larger than life.
QUESTION: Daryl Hannah said in Splash her mermaid costume was so tight it almost stopped her circulation. How was your your outfit?
KERI RUSSELL: They did actually manufacture a whole tail but I only wore it along my hips because the mermaid was digitally created so my costume was glittering hair extensions and blue tights. Adam joked that I looked more like someone who was going to a Grateful Dead concert than a mermaid. So I did not have that problem.

New Zealander Lucy Lawless became an international television icon in the 1990s as the apparently fearless star of Xena: Warrior Princess. The part seemed tailor made for the athletic actress who’d originally intended to be an opera singer (until she’d discovered that opera singers follow a strict diet and can’t stay out all night), yet after 134 episodes Lawless called it a day and has spent most of the last few years raising her three children: Daisy, 19; Julius, 9; and Judah, 6.
“Now my kids are relinquishing me and I’m ready to go back to work,” Lawless says with a laugh.
The actress dipped her toe in the water with a guest starring part in the last two seasons of Battlestar Galactica and has now been cast in her first major film role in recent years. Bedtime Stories is a Disney family comedy starring Adam Sandler and, alongside Lawless, a cast which also includes Courtney Cox, Keri Russell, fast-rising British comic Russell Brand, Richard Griffiths, and Australian actor Guy Pearce.
Adam Sandler plays Skeeter, a downtrodden hotel handyman who tells his niece and nephew elaborate stories, full of knights in armor and damsels in distress, that suddenly start to come true. The likable and witty Lawless, sporting a severe black bob that made her virtually unrecognizable, talked to us on the set of Bedtime Stories and told us about her role in the film, why she loves wigs, and how she got used to the Los Angeles smog.
Question: So Adam Sandler is the put-upon hotel handyman. Who do you play?
Lucy Lawless: Guy Pearce is the hotel manager and I play his wicked and twisted girlfriend, who’s also the hotel concierge. He’s putty in her deviant hands of course [laughs]. The original brief description of the character was that she was a “40-ish ex-model”, which I changed to “bitter 40-ish ex-model” because she never saw herself as ending up as a concierge in a bloody hotel and her way of managing her disappointment is to sink her hooks into some eligible male, in this case Guy Pearce, who is wonderfully smooth and effete in the role.

To promote the DVD released his movie Bedtime Stories, which will be in stores on April 7, 2009, Adam Sandler kindly answered questions about this movie and a whole lot more. Check out his interview/Q&A now.
QUESTION: You have an incredible success rate – so is there pressure that every movie matches the success of the movie that went before?
ADAM SANDLER: I don’t even know what my movies have done [at the box office] – I am that cool! (jokes) I make my movies and then I walk away. Then people come up to me and say…Wow, what a big hit…and I go, I don’t want to hear. I don’t want to know if they did good or bad, I just want to make movies. So there is no pressure. I have always been that guy and I always will be that guy.
QUESTION: There are Brits, Aussies and Kiwis on screen. Did that make for Commonwealth Vs USA rivalry?
ADAM SANDLER: I wanted to get to know different people.
QUESTION: Which bedtime stories that you were told were your favorites? And did you ever imagine that this would be where you are now?
ADAM SANDLER: No, I didn’t think about that when I was a little kid. I knew I was destined for greatness, I just didn’t know what. (jokes) I was always very good at chess and for a while I thought would be it. No…Bedtime stories were definitely a big part of my life because I was just so excited that my father was talking to me (jokes). I was like…longer father, stay in the room with me (jokes) can I get a hug also? No, just the story.
